Half a Century of Market Experience
The company, Staerkle & Co, was founded in 1946 by Emil Staerkle in Zurich. The
former Managing Director of the chemical company Dr. Maag AG (known as
Syngenta today), Mr. Staerkle, brought with him several years of experience
which enabled him to build a large customer base. The young company traded
raw materials and chemicals not only on its own behalf but also acted as agent
and representative and supported local and foreign customers. The range of
products and services offered was adapted to comply with changing market
demands.
In 1978, the company became a corporation. When Peter Nagler, Emil Staerkle’s
son-in-law, joined the company, it was renamed Staerkle & Nagler AG. Peter
Nagler successfully headed the company from 1978 to 1996.
Between 1986 and 1997, the 3rd generation joined the company, namely: Katrin
Strickler-Nagler, a Member of the Board of Directors and Director of Finance,
Hans Strickler-Nagler, Managing Director, Bettina Nagler, IT and QS, and Tibor
Gyarmathy-Nagler, Chemical Sales. Hans Strickler took over as Managing Director
in 1997 and was appointed President of the Board of Directors in 2002.
During the last few years, Staerkle & Nagler AG has grown progressively. In 2001
the firm moved its headquarters to Zollikon into modern offices with an excellent
infrastructure. In accordance with long-term company strategies, Staerkle &
Nagler AG restructured its core activities and focused on food products and
chemicals. The selection of products, areas of distribution and consultation services
are continually being enhanced.
